BILL NUMBER:A10018
Title of bill
An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to granting additional credits on competitive examinations for the children of emergency medical technicians killed in the line of duty
Purpose
Provides civil service examination credits to children and siblings of Uniformed EMT's and Paramedics of the FDNY killed in the World Trade Center Disaster.
Summary of provisions
This legislation would provide an additional ten points in competitive examinations to children of the Uniformed EMT's and Paramedics of the FDNY killed in the World Trade Center Disaster
Justification
The Uniformed EMT's and Paramedics of the FDNY, provide life saving rescue services to New Yorker's twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Sadly, at the World Trade Center Disaster, two uniformed members of the FDNY EMS Bureau were killed when the Towers collapsed. Legislation has been previously enacted providing legacy credits to the surviving children of other uniformed members of the FDNY and Police Officers of the NYPD. In drafting that legislation, uniformed FDNY -- EMS members were inadvertently omitted. This legislation will provide similar legacy credits for the one eligible son of Ricardo Quinn, a uniformed FDNY-EMS member who was killed in the line of duty at the attack on the Towers.
