BILL NUMBER:A10143
Title of bill
An act to amend the labor law, in relation to prevailing wages
Purpose or general idea of bill
Relates to prevailing wages for fire alarm system distributors.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1. Section 220 of the labor law is amended by adding a new subdivision 3-f.
Justification
This legislation would clarify and classify the differ- ence between individuals considered technicians in the fire alarm systems business who do not install fire alarms and are not contracted or sub contracted to install fire alarms, from those individuals who have received training and certifications legally deeming them electri- cians who, separate from the fire alarms systems distributing business, install said fire alarm systems. At present, there is a confusion resulting from the broad definition of an electrician in New York State causing fire alarm system employers to award their employees the prevailing wage of an electrician but who are not performing the duties nor have the title and training of an electrician.
