BILL NUMBER:A10434

Title of bill

An act to amend the education law, in relation to providing the Yonkers city school district with additional supplemental education improvement plan funds

Purpose

To provide the Yonkers City School District with additional Supplemental Improvement Plan funds totaling the percentage enrollment growth multiplied by the District's Foundation Aid in the base year.

Summary of provisions

This bill would provide the Yonkers City School District with additional Supplemental Improvement Plan funds by provid- ing for additional aid totaling the percentage increase in enrollment in 2009-2010 multiplied by the District's total Foundation Aid.

Justification

The Yonkers City School District has experienced signif- icant enrollment increases in the 2009-2010 school year. The State's freeze in Foundation Aid funding does not account for this growth there- by placing the District in the unfortunate position of having to educate more pupils with no additional money from the State. This bill would recognize the increase of 554 pupils, a 2.37% increase, and provide $3.98 million in additional funds for the District.

Legislative history

None.

Fiscal implications

$3.98 million for the State.

Effective date

This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
