BILL NUMBER:A10544
Title of bill
An act to amend the education law and the executive law, in relation to the compilation and dissemination of a monthly list of missing school children
Purpose or general idea of bill
To require a monthly check of all schools for missing children.
Summary of specific provisions
Directs school principals to compare the list of missing children received from the State Education Department with the school's attendance list. Directs such principal to notify at once the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Effects of present law which this bill would alter
Adds new paragraph (b) to subdivision four of section 3211 of the Education Law. Amends subdivision three of section 837-f of the Executive Law.
Justification
Many missing children are later enrolled in new schools within the state. A monthly list would allow authorities to conduct a thorough and timely check of schools for these children.
