BILL NUMBER:A10767

Title of bill

An act to amend the town law, in relation to annual elections, and to repeal section 212-a of the town law relating to the election of water district commissioners

Purpose or general idea of bill

To bring uniformity to the election process for improvement districts.

Summary of specific provisions

Section one of the bill amends section 212 of the town law by designating the second Tuesday in the month of December of each year, beginning in 2011, as the annual election day for all improvement district commissioners.

Section two of the bill repeals section 212-a of the town law.

Justification

Current law provides little sense of direction in terms of annual elections for improvement districts. This legislation aims to bring uniformity and transparency to the process by establishing a specific date and time each year on which such elections shall be held.

Prior legislative history

This is a new bill.

Fiscal implications

None to the state.

Effective date

This bill would take effect immediately.
