BILL NUMBER:A10891

Title of bill

An act to amend the alcoholic beverage control law, in relation to authorizing peace officers to work in licensed premises in certain cases and exempting such persons from background checks

Purpose

To allow peace officers additional employment opportunities at events where wine, beer and liquor are sold or consumed.

Summary of provisions

Section 1: adds a new section 128-b which allows peace officers to work in licensed premises provided that they have the permission and consent of their commanding officers.

EXISTING LAW:; Current law prohibits peace officers from being employed by establishments that hold a liquor license.

Justification

In these hard economic times this legislation will give peace offices additional employment opportunities. Peace officers with their special training are very well suited to work as a security guard or as a director of traffic. Because of their employment and training the bill will exempt them from background checks
