BILL NUMBER:A10934

Title of bill

An act to amend the education law, in relation to adjournment of school district elections and budget votes in certain school districts

Purpose

Relates to adjournment of school district elections and budget votes in certain school districts.

Summary of provisions

Section 1: Section 2022 of the education law is amended by adding a new subdivision 7.

Section 2: Enacting clause.

Justification

The Highland Falls Central School District has requested a delay in their budget vote to give them time to ascertain how much aid they will receive from the federal government Due to the fact that 93% of their taxable land is owned by the state and federal government, the Highland Falls school district relies heavily on the federal government to supplement their tax base with funding through Title VIII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. This bill will also provide the school district with more time to see if there is any addi- tional state aid restored in the 2010 state budget
