BILL NUMBER:A11138

Title of bill

An act to amend the labor law, in relation to the appli- cation of the prevailing wage on certain municipal projects

Purpose

To waive the requirement to pay prevailing wage on municipal construction projects with a total anticipated cost less than $5 million.

Summary of provisions

This bill amends paragraph 4 of §220 of the labor law, adding municipal projects with a total anticipated cost of less that $5 million to the list of actions exempted from §220.

Justification

The application of prevailing wage requirements on small municipal public construction projects often adds unnecessary cost delays to these projects. This bill would address this problem by cate- gorically exempting all municipal construction projects with a total estimated cost less than $5 million from the prevailing wage require- ments defined in §220 of the Labor Law.
