BILL NUMBER:A2967C
Title of bill
An act to amend the town law and the public officers law, in relation to waiving the residency requirement for the town building inspector and code enforcement officer in the town of New Haven, Oswego county
Purpose
Provides that candidates and office holders for the office of code enforcement and town Building inspector in the Town of New Haven, County of Oswego, hire a candidate who is not an elector of the town.
Summary of provisions
This bill amends Section 23 of the Town Law by adding a new subdivision 24 providing that the persons performing the functions of code enforcement officer and building inspector not be an elector of such town in the town of New Haven, in the County of Oswego.
Justification
In 2007, a committee was established by the Town Council to interview candidates for the position of code enforcement officer/building inspector. The committee recommended that the best available candidate was a person who was not an elector of the town. The town of New Haven believes it is in the best interest of the Town, and has passed a resolution reflecting such, requesting the necessary legis- lation to allow the best available candidate be appointed for the posi- tion of code enforcement officer/building inspector.
