BILL NUMBER:A4315A
Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to appli- cations for absentee ballots for school district elections
Purpose or general idea of bill
To simplify the application for an absentee ballot in the Education law so that the application process is less burdensome and intrusive on the voter.
Summary of specific provisions
Amends 2018-a of the Education Law to simplify the absentee ballot application by eliminating the need for overly specific and detailed information regarding the voter's absence. Such information deleted includes:
* A description of any special circumstances requiring the voter to be absent; the beginning and end dates of the voter's absence, and the name and address of the voter's employer.
Justification
The Education Law was amended last year to require absen- tee voting in school district elections and on school budget votes. Now, school district elections are as open and accessible to the public as government elections.
An applicant for such absentee ballot shall submit an application setting forth information that is required under current election law governing the application for an absentee ballot.
