BILL NUMBER:A5394A
Title of bill
An act to amend the retirement and social security law, in relation to credit for service of members who perform ambulance medical technician related services in the county of Nassau for the Nassau County Medical center prior to September 1999
Purpose or general idea of bill
To credit ambulance drivers and medical technicians who worked at the Nassau County Medical Center and whose jobs were then transferred to the Nassau County Police Department with the time they performed their duties at the Nassau County Medical Center
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1. Amends subdivision e of section 89-s of the retirement and social security law to include time served as an ambulance driver, ambulance medical technician, or member who performed ambulance medical technician related services for the Nassau County Medical Center prior to September first, nineteen hundred ninety-nine as credible service to be included in the computing years of total service for retirement.
Section 2. The cost attributable to the operation of this act shall be borne by the county of Nassau
Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately
Justification
Nassau University Medical Center ran an ambulance service in which ambulances were assigned a number by the Nassau County Police Department until 1990 when a lateral transfer to the Nassau County Police Department took place for the ambulance service. The ambulance drivers and medical technicians at the Nassau County Police Department and the Nassau County Medical Center were considered the as the same positions and one must have twenty-five years in the Nassau County Medical Center as an ambulance medical technician to retire. Since the positions were the same, the time spent at the Nassau County Medical Center should be credited for retirement purposes.
