BILL NUMBER:A7282A
Title of bill
An act to amend the retirement and social security law and chapter 511 of the laws of 1988 amending the retirement and social security law relating to a reduction in retirement age for certain members, in relation to extending the application of such provisions
Purpose or general idea of bill
Extends the application for provisions for a reduced retirement age for certain Triborough bridge and tunnel authority employees
Summary of specific provisions
Amends subdivision a of section 651 of the retirement and social security law
Justification
For a number of years MTA Bridge and Tunnel Maintainer employees have had a special carbon monoxide exposure related pension benefit. This pension "time credit" benefit recognizes the additional physical stress placed upon the respiratory systems of these members who are under constant exposure to carbon monoxide and other contaminants. Currently, these benefit sunsets every two years. This bill, recognizing the dangerous work performed by these members, would extend this stat- ute.
Prior legislative history
New bill. Extends current benefits, makes bill retroactive to the expiration thereof.
Fiscal implications
If this bill were to be enacted in the 2010 Legis- lative Session, the cost to the employer in fiscal year 2010-11 would be approximately $90,000 and would remain constant as a percent of payroll.
Effective date
Immediately and shall be in full force and effect as of December 31st, 2008.
