BILL NUMBER:A8391
Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 57 of the laws of 2005, amending the education law relating to establishing a program of capital financ- ing for public broadcasting stations, in relation to extending certain provisions
Purpose or general idea of bill
This bill would continue the provisions of the Public Broadcasting Facilities Assistance Program until March 31, 2010. The bill would allow Public Broadcasting Stations to continue to access previously appropriated funds for capital improve- ment purposes.
Summary of specific provisions
This bill amends Section 2 of Part P of Chapter 57 of the laws of 2005 to extend the provisions of this section for an additional year.
Justification
In the 2005 State Budget, $15,000,000 was appropriated for the Public Broadcasting Facilities Assistance Program. This program provided funding to encourage rehabilitation, acquisition, construction, and maintenance of capital facilities and equipment at Public Broadcast- ing Stations. The provisions of the Assistance Program were scheduled to expire on March 31, 2007, but were extended to be in effect until March 31, 2009. At this time, not all of the funding that was provided has been used. The bill would allow stations an extra year to access this previously appropriated funding.
