BILL NUMBER:A8593

Title of bill

An act to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to reducing the dimensions of signs required to be displayed where wine ice cream is being sold

Summary of specific provisions

Amends the opening paragraph of subpara- graph (iii) of paragraph (a) of subdivision 15 of section 200 of the agriculture and markets law to provide that advisory signs to be displayed conspicuously at the point of sale of wine ice cream have to be a minimum of 7 inches by 5 inches.

Justification

Seeking to expand the opportunities of farms and agribu- sinesses the legislature passed and the Governor signed legislation in 2008 (chapter 189 of the laws of 2008) that provided for the regulated sale of wine ice cream. There were many provisions provided for in that law to ensure that only those twenty-one years of age and older would be able to purchase and consume this product. This bill while reducing the minimum sign requirement size slightly still ensures the growth of this specialty agri-goodie while properly regulating it.
