BILL NUMBER:A8725
Title of bill
An act to legalize, validate, ratify and confirm certain acts and proceedings of the Salem central school district relating to transportation contracts for the 2007-2008 school year
Purpose
This bill directs the State Education Department to reimburse the Salem Central School District for specific transportation contracts from the 2007-2008 school year.
Summary of provisions
Section one - validates all of the acts taken by the Salem Central School District in connection with certain transporta- tion contracts of the 2007-2008 school year
Section two - directs the State Education Department to consider such contracts valid and proper obligations of the Salem. Central School District
Section three - contains the effective date
Justification
The Salem Central School District was denied transporta- tion aid from the New York State Education Department in the amount of $110,762.20. The department claimed that the reason for denial of a certain contract was due to late execution of the submission of the documentation. All other legal requirements for the contract were met by the district. The district contends that all contracts were submitted in a timely fashion, but were not received by the State Education department. Once contacted by the department the district resubmitted all contracts via certified mail.
