BILL NUMBER:A8729A

Title of bill

An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to providing for the financing and construction of capital facilities for Friends Academy, Glen Cove, Nassau County

Purpose or general idea of bill

To allow the inclusion of an educa- tional institution in the Public/Private Partnership program adminis- tered by the New York State Dormitory Authority

Summary of specific provisions

Section 1 amends paragraph (b) of subdivision 2 of section 1676 of the public authorities law, and Section 2 amends section 1680 of such law to add Friends Academy in Glen Cove to the list of educational institutions eligible for financing through the dormitory authority.

Justification

Sections 1676 and 1680 of the public authorities law contain the names of specific educational institutions that are author- ized to receive assistance from the New York State Dormitory Authority. Without inclusion in this listing, an education institution does not qualify for such assistance. This bill will authorize Friends Academy in Glen Cove to be included in the Public/Private Partnership program that is administered by the Dormitory Authority in order to most effectively finance the construction of new science and other educational facilities at its existing location.
