BILL NUMBER:A8905
Title of bill
An act to authorize Young Israel of Hewlett to file applications for real property tax exemptions with the county of Nassau
Purpose
To authorize Young Israel of Hewlett to file an application with the Nassau County Assessor's office for a real property tax exemption.
Summary of provisions
Sections One and Two - This bill would authorize and direct the Assessor of the County of Nassau to accept an application for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to Section 420-a of the Real Property Tax Law for certain taxes owed by the Young Israel of Hewlett.
Justification
This legislation would provide Young Israel of Hewlett with an exemption from real property taxes pursuant to section 420-a of the real property tax law for the 2006-2007 final assessment roll, with respect to the school taxes for the 2006-2007 school year, and the 2007 general tax assessment roll for two parcels located at 45 Centre Street Woodmere and One Piermont Road Hewlett.
The parcel located in Hewlett has been exempt from real property taxes since the date that this exempt organization purchased the property. The parcel located in Woodmere has been exempt from the real property taxes since the date of purchase on June 30, 2004.
The organization has been filing the annual renewal application for exemption from real property taxes in a timely manner for a number of years. The synagogue does not have available funds in order to pay the assessment of real property taxes for the year in question. In order to preserve the community synagogue for the use by its residents, it needs the requested relief from real property taxes.
