BILL NUMBER:A9138A

Title of bill

An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to fund- ing of the Brooklyn healthworks pilot program and upstate healthworks pilot program

Purpose or general idea of bill

Increase funding available for the Brooklyn Healthworks pilot program and the Upstate Healthworks pilot program.

Summary of specific provisions

Subsection (t) of section 4327 of the insurance law is amended.

Justification

Thanks to the legislation passed in 2006 which provides Healthworks with a steady stream of subsidy funding through the Healthy New York Program, enrollment has expanded, However, because of the current subsidy rates (2006 rates), the program can not meet the demand of the number of enrollees and will have no choice but, to limit the number of enrollees or start turning away new businesses, unless addi- tional subsidy is secured.
