BILL NUMBER:A9212
Title of bill
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to extending the period in which a defective equipment violation may be corrected from one to two days
Purpose of the bill
This bill would allow those who are issued a violation for defective equipment on their motor vehicle to have two days to correct the violation.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 of the bill changes the period in which a defective equipment violation may be corrected from one day to two days.
Section 2 of the bill relates to the effective date.
Justification
There are often situations where an individual who receives a defective equipment violation may not be able to correct the problem within the current allotted time of one day. Unforeseeable events, prior commitments and employment may hinder an individual's ability to fix the equipment in one business day. This bill affords the motorist an additional day to correct the violation in order to get it dismissed.
