BILL NUMBER:A9372

Title of bill

An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to reimbursement of certain volunteer firefighters for emergency medical technician training

Purpose or general idea of bill

This bill would provide for the reimbursement of volunteer firefighters for receiving emergency medical technician training in fire departments not associated with the local ambulance service.

Summary of specific provisions

The general municipal law is amended by adding a new section 209-z.

Justification

It would encourage volunteers to obtain this necessary training for dealing with medical emergencies. Many of these departments are not associated with the local ambulance service, which would otherwise make them eligible for this reimbursement.
