BILL NUMBER:A9373

Title of bill

An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to reimbursement for the response costs of certain municipalities or district corporations which are duly authorized to provide emergency services, emergency medical services, or general ambulance services

Purpose or general idea of bill

This bill provides for New York State to reimburse the towns of Somers, Bedford, Lewisboro, Mt, Kisco, New Castle, North Salem and Pound Ridge for certain costs associated with specific emergency response on the Saw Mill River Parkway or any other State parkway.

Summary of specific provisions

General Municipal law is amended by adding a new section 209-ff.

Justification

The Towns of Somers, Bedford, Lewisboro, Mt Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem and Pound Ridge are involved in a consortium with Stellaris EMS to provide Paramedic services on our ambu- lances.

This service, although essential for saving lives, has become very cost- ly. In addition to local calls for assistance the EMS service also provides the same service for 1-684 and other State Highways within the boundaries of these local municipalities.

This cost rightly should be shared by the state.
