BILL NUMBER:A9498

Title of bill

An act in relation to the initial date of enrollment provided by Lynn P. Smith as a Tier I member of the New York state and local employees' retirement system

Purpose

To change Ms. Smith's date of membership as to allow her to receive the benefits becoming a Tier I member.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 deems Lynn P. Smith a member of the retirement system as of October 27, 1970.

Justification

Through no fault of her own Lynn. Smith was not made a member of the retirement system when she was employed by the city of Lockport Youth Bureau. Subsequently her date of membership is incorrect.

This legislation seeks to correct that inequity by changing Ms. Smith's date of membership and allowing her to become a Tier I member.
