BILL NUMBER:A9556
Title of bill
An act to authorize the village of Goshen in Orange county to appoint Michael Wilson to a full-time competitive police officer position
Purpose or general idea of bill
Allows the Village of Goshen to appoint Michael Wilson as a full-time police officer.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1 authorizes the Village of Goshen, upon the approval of the Board of Trustees, to appoint Michael Wilson to a full-time competitive position as a police officer.
Section 2 contains the effective date.
Justification
Section 58 of the New York State Civil Service Law prohibits an individual over the age of 35 from appointment in the competitive class as a police officer. Michael Wilson is currently a part-time police officer for the Village of Goshen Police Department. Officer Wilson is a police academy graduate who is physically able to perform his job duties as a police officer. However, he is not eligible to be appointed as a full-time police officer because he is older than the age of 35. This legislation is necessary to allow Michael Wilson to be appointed to a full-time police officer position notwithstanding Section 58 of the Civil Service Law.
