BILL NUMBER:A9963A

Title of bill

An act to authorize the Orange county department of personnel to waive the maximum age provision for Michael Wilson, a part- time police officer for the village of Goshen police department

Purpose or general idea of bill

Authorize the Orange County Department of Personnel to waive the maximum age provision for Michael Wilson to take the written exam for civil service appointment as a police officer.

Summary of specific provisions

Notwithstanding section 58 of the Civil Service law, this bill authorizes the Orange County Department of Personnel to waive the maximum age provision of thirty-five years as of the date when an applicant takes the written exam for provisional or permanent appointment in the competitive class of civil service as a police officer, for Michael Wilson, who is currently a part time police officer for. the Village of Goshen police department.

Justification

Section 58 of the New York State Civil Service Law prohibits an individual over the age of 35 from taking the written exam- ination for provisional or permanent appointment in the competitive class of civil service as a police officer. Michael Wilson is currently a part-time police officer for the Village of Goshen Police Department. Officer Wilson is fully trained and is physically able to perform his job duties as a police officer. However, he is not eligible to take the examination because he is older than the age of 35. This legislation is necessary to allow Michael Wilson to take the examination notwithstand- ing Section 58 of the Civil Service Law.
