Title of bill
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring at least one member of the water board of the city of Buffalo be a member of the common council of such city
Purpose
This legislation would allow the City of Buffalo's Common Council a representative on the City of Buffalo Water Board.
Summary of provisions
Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 1048-f of the public authorities law, as added by chapter 796 of the laws of 1985, is amended.
Justification
The purpose of this legislation is to allow the City of Buffalo's Common Council to have a representative on the City's water Board. Currently there are seven members of the water board appointed by the Mayor and the council can only approve or disapprove the Mayor's appointments. This has lead to the lack of a voice on this very important board for the Common Council. This lack of representation has resulted at times in decisions that have negatively impacted thousands of city homeowners who the council represents. This legislation would allow the Council to have a person representing their interests on the board.
