Title of bill
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to authorizing the county of Chautauqua to elect to be exempt from certain taxes related to E-911 reflective house numbers
Purpose or general idea of bill
The purpose of this bill is to exempt the collection of taxes on the purchase of reflective E-911 house numbers.
Summary of specific provisions
This bill would amend the Tax Law by adding a new section 1115-a to exempt the collection of taxes imposed under subdivision (a) of section eleven hundred five, section eleven hundred ten, and section twelve hundred ten of the New York State Tax Laws.
Justification
The justification for this bill is to exempt the State and County sales tax otherwise required when purchasing products for personal use. As the purchase of a reflective E-91l sign is for public safety, both for the emergency personnel and the residents of the purchaser's household, the sales tax on these signs are an unnecessary impediment. Reflective E-911 signs should be made available to the public without the additional burden of a sales tax.
Legislative history
S.7927 of 2008.
Fiscal implications
The fiscal implication for the State is yet to be determined.
Effective date
This act shall take effect immediately.
