Title of bill

An act to amend the education law, in relation to permitting out-of-state visiting faculty to perform acupuncture in accredited program

Purpose or general idea of the bill

Allows out-of-state visiting faculty to perform acupuncture in an accredited program.

Summary of provisions

Amends subdivision 7 of section 8216 of the education law, to allow out of state visiting faculty to perform acupuncture in an accredited program.

Justification

There are several exemptions to the licensure requirement for New York: a person pursuing qualification through a formal course of study in a registered program, and any person appointed to the faculty of such a program, may practice acupuncture without a license, so long as the practice is limited to training, study, and research. The current bill allows out of state visiting faculty to also practice.
