Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to increasing the membership on the state board of acupuncture
Purpose or general idea of the bill
Increases the membership on the State board of acupuncture to thirteen, with six, rather than the current four, to be licensed acupuncturists.
Summary of provisions
The bill changes the composition of the board, which is currently eleven members, of whom four are licensed acupuncturists, four are physicians certified to use acupuncture, and three are public members. In short, the current board makes only four of the eleven members licensed acupuncturists. The measure gives licensed acupuncturists the largest single membership on the board, but still less than a majority.
Justification
The bill attempts to establish some equity on the State board of acupuncture, by giving greater sway to those who have passed the licensing requirements as acupuncturists.
