BILL NUMBER:S2400A

Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the "Lake Ontario wine trail"

Purpose or general idea of bill

To extend the current Lake Ontario Wine Trail along the Route 104 corridor to the Wayne/Monroe County line and also to encompass the Route 350 corridor to Macedon.

Summary of specific provisions

The bill would amend Subdivision 8 of section 343-k of the highway law, as added by Chapter 460 of the laws of 2002 by adding all that portion of the state highway system of Route 350 at the intersection of Route 104, in the Town of Ontario, to the intersection of Route 31 in the Town of Macedon and Route 31 to the Wayne/Monroe county line shall also be designated and known as the "Lake Ontario wine Trail".

Justification

This legislation has been requested by a new local winery located in the Town of Williamson that wishes to be a part of the Lake Ontario Wine Trail. Additionally, new wineries are being created along Route 350 and 31 and are expected to open in 2010. By extending the Lake Ontario wine trail, traffic and tourism will be increased along the additional route.
