Title of bill

An act to amend the military law, in relation to authorizing additional paid leave for public employees who are absent on military duty

Purpose

This bill authorizes additional thirty days military leave for public employees who are absent on military duty.

Summary of provisions

Section 242(5) of the military law is amended by increasing the number of days for which a public employee shall be paid his or her salary while engaged in the performance of ordered military duty from a total of 30 days or 22 working days to 60 days and 52 working days.

Justification

Currently, state law allows public employees to receive 30 days of paid leave a year for military service. At one time, reservists employed in Bosnia were given an additional thirty days of military leave. Brave men and women who leave their homes and families to bravely answer the call of duty should be fairly compensated.
