Title of bill
An act to amend the public buildings law, in relation to naming the research tower as the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities the "Dr. Henryk Wisniewski Research Tower"
Purpose or general idea of bill
To designate the tower at the administration building of the Institute for Basic Research (IBR) in Developmental Disabilities as the "Dr. Henryk Wisniewski Research Tower."
Summary of specific provisions
A new section, 2-C is added to the Public Buildings Law.
Justification
This bill names the research tower at IBR after Dr. Henryk Wisniewski who was a former director for over 24 years. Dr. Wisniewski's tenure at IBR included extensive research which resulted in the expansion of early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. As a dedicated and gifted electron microscopical neuropathologist, he touched the lives of many and caught the attention of neuroscientists throughout the world. It is a fitting tribute to name the tower at IBR after a man who dedicated his entire life to helping others.
