Title of bill

An act to amend the tax law, in relation to granting a personal income tax rebate check for certain residents and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof

Purpose

Grants a personal income tax rebate check for certain residents.

Summary of provisions

Section 1. The tax law is amended by adding a new section 700 to read: personal income tax rebate check

Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately, and shall expire and be deemed repealed December 31, 2009.

Justification

In addition to eliminating the state taxes on gasoline for the summer driving period, this measure would further alleviate New York State residents by providing them much needed financial relief. With the price of gas on the rise, it is necessary that the Legislature take all necessary steps to help the hard working residents of New York State. This bill is a pro-active approach to help people deal with record high gas prices.
