Title of bill

An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to providing for the special accidental death benefit for district attorney investigators

Purpose

Adds District Attorney Investigators to the special accidental death benefit.

Summary of provisions

This bill amends section 208-f a. and h. of the general municipal law by adding District Attorney Investigators to the special accidental death benefit.

Justification

Section 208-f a. and h. have been amended several times to add individuals from various law enforcement related jurisdictions to be eligible to receive the special accidental death benefit in the event that they die from an illness sustained in the course of the performance of their duties. Since district attorney investigators play such a vital role with in the law enforcement community and often face the same risks and dangers as police officers, they should also be eligible for the special accidental death benefit. In addition, when section 208-f was amended by adding a new section to provide for the special accidental death benefit in relation to the World Trade Center presumption, the statute should also be amended to include these special employees as will since they participated in the World Trade Center recovery efforts.

Fiscal implications

None.
