Title of bill

An act to amend chapter 479 of the laws of 2004 relating to increasing availability under the adult day health care program, in relation to making the provisions of such chapter permanent

Purpose

This bill would relate to the provision of services under the adult day health care program.

Summary of specific provisions

Chapter 479 of the Laws of 2004 authorized the Commissioner of the Department of Health to increase the number of adult day health care slots available for a specified period of time as part of a demonstration program in a certain county by up to twenty slots for any adult day health care program established pursuant to 10 NYCRR Part 425 having less than fifty authorized slots which is unable to accommodate individuals awaiting placement into the adult day health care program. It also provided for certain reporting requirements.

Justification

This bill would continue to allow certain adult day health care programs to increase their number of adult day health care slots by up to 20 slots of its approved bed level to accommodate individuals awaiting placement into the adult day health care program. This bill would continue to require an annual report which would contain the cost of the program including the savings to the state and local governments, the number of persons served by the program by county, a description of the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients served by the program, and an evaluation of the quality of care provided to persons served by the program. Unless there is a cost savings to the state and local governments, the program will be terminated.
