Sponsor's memo

Title of bill

An act to amend the public lands law, in relation to notice to municipalities of intent to lease or purchase lands by the state of New York

Purpose

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Requires that the Commissioner of General Services give written notice to the Mayor or Supervisor of a municipality of the intent of the state of New York or any office, department, division, bureau, agency or authority thereof to lease or purchase land within the municipality.

Justification

State government should be a partner with our State's local governments. Towards that end, it is important that local officials are notified of state agency intent to lease or purchase property within a municipality. Municipalities can only have an opportunity to participate in discussions with the state over the details of state lease or purchase arrangements if they are aware of such plans. This legislation will facilitate such communication.
