Title of bill
An act to authorize Bethel A.M.E. Church to file an application for real property tax exemption
Purpose or general idea of bill
This bill would authorize the Bethel AM.E. Church to file an application for a real property tax exemption.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1 would authorize the Bethel AM.E. Church to file an application for a real property tax exemption for the 2006-2007, and 2007-08 assessment rolls for the parcel owned by such not-for-profit organization which is located in Huntington Station at 51 10th Avenue.
Justification
The property located at 51 10th Avenue in Huntington Station has been owned by the Bethel A.M.E. Church for many years. In the past, the parcel located at 51 10th Avenue was leased to other individuals for non-church related purposes. However, since 2007, the property located at 51 10th Avenue in Huntington Station has been used for religious purposes. The local municipality of the Town of Huntington Station has already granted tax exempt status to Bethel AME for the year 2009. For the stated reasons Bethel A.M.E Church should be granted a real property tax exemption.
