Title of bill

An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to providing for reduced fare tokens for residents of Kings county who use the Verrazano-Narrows bridge

Summary of provisions

This bill would amend Section 553(f) of the Public Authorities Law to require that the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority offer commutation tokens at reduced fare (80% of the regular crossing fare imposed on non-residents) to the residents of Kings County for the crossing of the Verrazano-Narrows bridge.

Justification

Currently, the Verrazano-Narrows bridge charges the highest toll of all the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority facilities. In addition, there are a great number of Kings County residents who use the bridge on a day-to-day basis to commute to and from their places of employment. Needless to say, commuting becomes an expensive necessity for these residents. This bill is designed to help ease their financial burden by entitling them to crossings over the Verrazano-Narrows bridge at a reduced cost of 80% of the regular crossing fare.

Effective date

This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have become law.
