BILL NUMBER:S4342A

Title of bill

An act to amend the general municipal law and the criminal procedure law, in relation to employment of retired police officers by school districts

Purpose

Allows employment of retired police officers as special security officers for school districts.

Summary of provisions

Amends the general municipal law by adding a new section 209-vv, and amends subdivision 1 of section 209-v.

Justification

Currently, many school districts cannot find qualified retired police officers to work as security officers, because the amount of compensation they were receiving would interfere with their pensions. This provision would make it easier to hire qualified retired police to serve as security officers because their employment would not be subject to article 7 of the retirement and social security law.

Fiscal implications

None.
