BILL NUMBER:S4394B
Title of bill
An act to amend the penal law, in relation to assaulting a New York city sanitation worker
Purpose of bill
Raises an assault on a New York City Sanitation worker while he or she is performing assigned duties.
Justification
New York City Sanitation Workers are under potential harassment and stress at their job at any time due to the actions of many citizens who resent their adherence to rules and regulations. Many NYC Sanitation Workers have been the victims of physical violence for simply doing their job. This bill would make assaulting them a felony and increase harsher penalties on their assailants. The current law protects peace officers, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical service professionals, city marshal and traffic enforcement personnel. Under this new law, NYC Sanitation workers will be given the same protection.
Fiscal implications
None.
Effective date
This act shall take effect 30 days after it shall have become a law.
