Title of bill
An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to health insurance coverage for diagnostic testing and treatment for infertility
Purpose/summary of provisions
Makes various provisions regarding health insurance coverage for bone density measurement, mammograms, cervical cytological screening, and infertility.
Justification
Women's health insurance coverage continues to be haphazardly addressed, with gross inequities between various providers. This bill would require coverage of infertility treatments and age discrimination and other flawed technicalities present in S.3131-B of 1999. Preventative health measures such as yearly mammography after age 40, bone density measurements to determine the onset of osteoporosis, and coverage for contraceptive drugs are all viable means of keeping long-term health care costs down.
Legislative history
New Bill.
Fiscal implications
None to the State.
Effective date
This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law and shall apply to all policies issued, renewed, modified or altered on or after such date.
