Title of bill

An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to deferring eligible lists for persons called to active duty in military service

Purpose or general idea of bill

To allow civil service applicants on an eligible list to defer the length of their eligibility in the even they are called to active duty in military service.

Summary of specific provisions

Amends Section 56 of the civil service law by providing that an applicant on an eligible list for a civil service position who is called up to active duty in military service can defer the length of their eligibility by a period equal to the length of the active duty.

Justification

Many civil service applicants are also servicemen and women. Otherwise qualified and eligible civil service applicants should not have their eligibility period truncated or eliminated simply because they are called to active duty in military service.
