Title of bill

An act to amend the tax law, in relation to providing tax credits to volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers under certain circumstances

Purpose of bill

Provide tax credit to volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers under certain circumstances.

Summary of provisions

Volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers who have completed all required training courses as required by the State of New York would be granted a $200 credit against New York State personal income tax.

Justification

It is estimated that volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers save New York State taxpayers well in excess of one billion dollars annually. Each year it becomes more difficult to recruit new volunteers. The cost of this program would be far less costly than to utilize paid members.

Legislative history

Fiscal implications
