Title of bill

An act to amend the executive law, in relation to increasing the amount of reimbursement the division of veterans' affairs shall provide to local veterans' service agencies for the cost of maintenance of such agencies

Purpose or general idea of bill

To amend Section 359 of the New York state Executive Law to allow the Division of Veterans' Affairs to fund local veterans service agencies at the level of current appropriations.

Summary of specific provisions

This bill amends Section 359 by raising the "caps" on funding to local veterans service agencies.

Effects of present law which this bill would alter

Section 359 of the Executive Law currently provides "caps" on funding to local veterans service agencies.

Justification

The current budget provides funding for aid to local veterans services agencies that, if distributed pursuant to existing statute, would exceed the "caps" currently set forth in section 359 of the executive law.

This bill, if enacted, would allow the New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs to increase funding to local veterans service agencies only to the extent that funding is actually appropriated.

Prior legislative history

New Legislation.

Fiscal implications for state and local governments

This bill increases the "caps" on funding for local veterans service agencies but does not mandate increase funding.

Effective date

This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to all expenditures made on and after April 1, 2009.
