Title of bill
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to the non-voting members on the boards of the Triborough bridge and tunnel authority, the New York city transit authority and the metropolitan transportation authority
Purpose or general idea of bill
To add a non-voting member to the Committee on Operations of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, who will represent labor.
Section 1263 of the public authorities law is amended to add one non-voting member to the Committee on Operations of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) to serve until January 1, 2001. The non-voting member shall be recommended to the chairman by the by the labor organization representing the majority of employees of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
JUSTIFICATION ; Committee on Operations of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) is a very important body that determines TBTA policy, such as decisions concerning service reductions and capital construction. Currently, there is no TBTA labor representative on that board. It is only proper that the people who work for the TBTA have a voice in making its policy. This bill would allow a representative of labor to comment on and discuss the issues before the board.
