Title of bill

An act to amend the county law, in relation to the publication of local laws and notices

Purpose

Authorizes counties to publish notice of county legislation action which directs readers to the county internet web site for full text of such Notices.

Summary of provisions

Section 214 of the county law is amended by adding a new subdivision 4

Justification

This bill would allow counties the option to place local law, notices or other matters, on its web site in it entirety, and not be required to publish the full text of the law in an official newspaper. This bill would authorize counties in lieu of publication of any entire law, the option to publish an announcement that the law has been passed, a summary of its content and state that the full context of the law are available at the county's web site. This proposed process of publication of government laws and actions will increase public awareness, by allowing greater access, while simultaneously saving counties significant money.
