Title of bill

An act to authorize the village of Greenwood Lake in Orange county to appoint Alexander Nicholas to a full-time competitive police officer position

Purpose

Allows the Village of Greenwood Lake to appoint Alexander Nicholas as a full-time police officer.

Summary of provisions

Authorizes the Village of Greenwood Lake, upon the approval of the Board of Trustees, to appoint Alexander Nicholas to a full-time competitive position as a police officer notwithstanding the age requirement under section 58 of the Civil Service Law.

Justification

Section 58 of the New York State Civil Service Law prohibits an individual over the age of 35 from appointment in the competitive class as a police officer. Alexander Nicholas is currently a part-time police officer for the Village of Greenwood Lake Police Department. Officer Nicholas is fully trained and is physically able to perform his job duties as a police officer. However, he is not eligible to be appointed as a full-time police officer because he is older than the age of 35. This legislation is necessary to allow Alexander Nicholas to be appointed to a full-time police officer position notwithstanding Section 58 of the Civil Service Law.
