Title of bill
An act to amend the navigation law, in relation to clarifying the continuity of a deck of a vessel for the determination of pilotage units used in calculating pilotage fees
Purpose or general idea of bill
To clarify the continuity of deck of a vessel for the determination of pilotage units used in calculating pilotage fees.
Summary of specific provisions
This legislation amends paragraph (c) of subdivision 4 of §88 of the navigation law as added by Chapter 197 of the laws of 1990.
Justification
This bill proposes to amend the navigation law in relation to clarifying the continuity of a deck of a vessel for the determination of pilotage units used in calculating pilotage fees by recognizing that vessel construction evolves with time, technology and need. Today's innovations in naval architecture were simply not envisioned when the language of the original statute was written, and as such needs to be updated.
