Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 607 of the laws of 2004, relating to authorizing the town of Marcellus to extend the Marcellus fire protection district into the village of Marcellus, in relation to authorizing the town to purchase the fire barn and equipment located in the village of Marcellus
Purpose
This bill authorizes the town of Marcellus to extend the Marcellus Fire protection district into the village of Marcellus, in relation to authorizing the town to purchase the fire barn and equipment located outside the Village of the Marcellus.
Summary of provisions
This bill will amend Chapter 607 of the laws of 2004, relating to authorizing the town of Marcellus to purchase, hold title to and maintain the fire barn facility and equipment in the fire protection district outside the Village of Marcellus.
Justification
In 2004, the Town of Marcellus established a fire protection district. In the same year, the Town requested that the State Legislature pass legislation to allow the Town of Marcellus to extend its fire protection district to include the Village of Marcellus. The Marcellus Volunteer Fire Department's barn currently resides outside the Village of Marcellus. The Town has been leasing the Department's fire barn and equipment from the Village. The Town is reimbursing the village for the majority of the cost to operate the fire department and bond payments for the construction of the fire barn, previously bonded by the Village. Currently, approximately eighty percent of the Fire Department's budget is paid by Town residents. The Town and Village both desire to transfer ownership of the fire barn to the Town.
This bill will allow the town of Marcellus to purchase, hold title to and maintain the fire barn facility and equipment in the fire protection district outside the Village of Marcellus.
