Title of bill
An act to amend the village law, in relation to continue the existence and operation of the Woodbury fire district within the village of Woodbury, in the county of Orange
Purpose
The purpose of this bill is to continue the existence and operation of the Woodbury Fire District so that fire protective services can be provided within the newly incorporated Village of Woodbury.
Summary of provisions
Section 1: Amends Village Law section 2-254 to authorize the continuation of the Woodbury Fire District. It also makes it very clear that the recent incorporation of the Village of Woodbury will not affect the existence, powers and responsibilities of such fire district in any way.
Existing law
Under existing law, with the recent incorporation of the Village of Woodbury, whose boundaries are almost completely co-terminus with the Town of Woodbury, except for one small portion of the Village of Harriman, the Woodbury Fire District would cease to exist by operation of the Village Law.
Justification
See the Existing Law section above. This bill will allow the Woodbury Fire District to continue to provide tire protection services within the Village of Woodbury, notwithstanding the other provisions of the Village Law. This bill is supported by the Woodbury Fire District, the Town of Woodbury, and Village of Woodbury.
