Title of bill
An act to authorize the Incorporated Village of Muttontown to file an application for exemption from real property taxes for a certain parcel of land located in the village of Muttontown, town of Oyster Bay, county of Nassau
Purpose
This bill authorizes the Incorporated Village of Muttontown to file an application for a real property tax exemption with Nassau County,
Summary of provisions
Section 1 of the bill would authorize the assessor of the County of Nassau to accept an application for an exemption from real property taxes as if made pursuant to § 410 of the Real Property Tax Law. If satisfied that the Incorporated Village of Muttontown would otherwise have been entitled to said exemption, the assessor upon approval may provide for a refund or cancel all remaining unpaid taxes, interest, related fines and penalties.
Justification
The Incorporated Village of Muttontown acquired the Kirby Lane property within the Village in 1972. The Village has filed for an exemption for the 2007-2008 fiscal year, but is need of this legislation for the tax years of 2005-2006 and 2006-07. Previous Village Adminstration's have chosen to not address the problem. The current administration wants to fix the error.
It is intended by this bill to ameliorate the hardship that will be suffered by the Incorporated Village of Muttontown if it is required to pay the property taxes due.
